Orville Dixon
15 years old
Class 2 - 800m, 1500m
Favorite Grace Product: Eats Ketchup on everything

Young and talented, Orville won 2 Gold medals at Champs in 2011.Last year he made the Carifta team in Class 3, and is on the team again this year, with the hopes of breaking Kemar Campbell's record. Of course he would like to win both events again this year at Champs. For a long time he has admired Asafa Powell who he says he has been loyal to as he was the first one on the scene before Bolt came along. Orville plans on having a long career in track.

 

 

 

 

Michael O'hara
15 years old
Class 2 - 100m, 200m, 110m Hurdles

Gold medalist for 100m and 110m Hurdles at Champs last year, Michael also placed 3rd at the Carifta Games, his first time of being on the team. He sees an opportunity to go for triple medal at Champs 2012 and is going for it, despite this being his first year in Class 2, and is intent on making the finals in all three events. Michael is inspired by Asafa Powell whom he has observed during some of his training sessions and respects his natural talent and form.

 

 

 


Damar Robinson
17 years old
Class 1- High Jump & Triple Jump
A.K.A.- Squidy

The defending champion for high jump and the triple high jump for Champs 2011, this 6ft 2' athlete would like to break the current triple jump record of 15.6m, and high jump of 2.15m. This 6th year Champs veteran is also the Captain of the team, highly respected for his leadership qualities and years of experience at Champs. As Team Captain, Damar explains that he and his teammates puts God first and starts every training session with a joyous devotion followed by prayer. This is Calabar's 100th year so the main aim for Team Calabar is to win Champs 2012. He admires his head coach, Coach Clarke for how he has handled the team over the years, helping them to grow in their career in track.




Aykeeme Francis
14 years old
Class 3 - 400m, 800m, Long Jump, 4x100m
Favorite Grace Product: Tin Mackerel

Aykeeme ran the fastest time at the Douglas Forrest Track Meet of 2.06m this year for Class 3, 800m. He also clocked 52.41m in the 400m at the GC Foster College Meet this year. As a first time competitor at Champs Aykeeme is a favorite to truly represent at Champs this year, based on current predictions. Aykeeme aspires to be just like his fellow teammate Javon Francis, the favorite to win the 400m for Class 1 at Champs 2012.

 

 

 

Javon Francis
17 years old
Class 1 - 400m, 400m Hurdles, 4x4
A.K.A.- Donkeyman
Favorite Grace Product: Baked Beans (with saltfish)

In his first year at Champs 2011, Javon placed second in the 400m. This will be his first year competing in the Hurdles 400m. Javon is especially hopeful his team will take the 4x4 relay for Class 1. Recognizing this is his first year in Class 1 Javon has ambitions of dominating all his events. When asked about his unusual nickname, Javon explains that it's a long story but basically was given the name by his very first coach Mr. Tucker at St. Benedicts Primary at the tender age of 9 years old and it has stayed with him ever since.

 

 

Gawayne Porter
14 years old
Class 3 - 200m, 400m

Gawayne was courted by many top corporate area schools for his athletic skills which he first displayed at Parish Champs. He decided on Calabar not just for their prominence in track but also their academic achievements. This is not only his first year representing Team Calabar but also his very first time at Champs. In 2010 he represented Jamaica at the JTA Meet in St. Kitts where the team earned 2 gold, 1 silver and I bronze medal along with 2 trophys. He was also awarded the title of Caribbean Champion boy for under 13 boys in Class 4. Gawayne is tremendously excited about being on the team for Champs this year and is relishing in the team's spirit. This wide-smiled young man admires Ramone Mckenzie, a former track star from Calabar and his current coach, Coach Michael Clarke.

 

Malcom Campbell
15 years old
Class 2 - 400m

Placing 3rd in the 400m at Champs last year due to a hamstring injury in his left leg, Malcom is training hard and is focused on taking the first position for the 400m this year. This is his second year with Team Calabar and he enjoys being apart of a team of very confident men. Based on his performance at All Age Champs in 2010, Malcom was courted by several schools like JC, Wolmers and KC but chose Calabar for their team spirit and academics. It is his hope to take his passion for track all the way and foresees a long and successful career.
